Recognising Dengue Patrollers achievements

KUALA LUMPUR – The students, known as Dengue Patrollers and their schools achieved the overall champions in the respective primary and secondary school categories

Students of SK Bagan Serai, Perak, a primary school, and SMK Raja Muda Musa, Bestari Jaya, Selangor, a secondary school, celebrated their success at the 8th Dengue Patrol 2018 national level award giving ceremony held at Hotel Aloft KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur on 14th November, 2018.

The students, known as Dengue Patrollers and their schools achieved the overall champions in the respective primary and secondary school categories, culminating the hard work in eradicating dengue they had demonstrated throughout the 6-month program which commenced in February 2018.

Each of the national winners’ schools received a cash prize of RM5,000 and a trophy from deputy education minister Teo Nie Ching

The Dengue Patrol 2018 overall champion for secondary school goes to SMK Raja Muda Musa, Selangor with cash prize of RM5,000. The school also won two awards in the Community Service and Quiz categories, with each receiving RM1,000 cash and plaque.

There were also prizes for the first, second, third and fourth runner-ups.

Winners were also announced for four special categories in community services, social media, performing arts and quiz.

In her speech, Teo congratulated the students for their exemplary effort and services to the communities by championing dengue awareness and prevention with over 12,000 community outreach initiatives as envisaged in the 6-month long social media and on-ground activities created and executed by the students themselves.

Teo shares a light moment with student Aiman of SK Bagan Serai Perak, the champion of Dengue Patrol 2018 for primary school category.

“I commend both organiser and students for their commitment to this innovative program which has grown from strength to strength. From what I understand, the Dengue Patrollers have been positively impacting close to a million people by raising awareness on the dangers of dengue and why preventive methods play a pivotal role,” she said.

Dengue Patrol was first introduced in 2011 with just three schools participating in the fight against dengue and this year expanded to 191 schools, comprising 103 primary schools and 88 secondary schools.

Teo said the program was more than an avenue to spread awareness about dengue.

“The ministry also views Dengue Patrol as a tangible platform for students to express their creativity while learning team spirit and civic mindedness, she said.

The first runner-up of Dengue Patrol 2018 (primary school) goes to SK Convent Teluk Intan with a cash prize of RM3,000 and trophy.

 

The second runner-up of Dengue Patrol 2018 (primary school) goes to SK Popok, Sabah with cash prize of RM2,000 and trophy. The school also won two awards in Community Service and Performing Arts categories with each receiving cash RM1,000 and plaque.

 

SJKC Kuok Ming, Sabah won the third runner-up (primary school) with cash prize of RM1,000 and trophy.

 

SK Sarang Tiong, Pahang won the fourth runner-up (primary school) with cash prize of RM800 and trophy.

 

The Quiz category winner (primary school) goes to SK Bandar Tasik Kesuma, Selangor with cash prize of RM1,000 and plaque.

Camille de Lataillade, general manager of Sanofi Pasteur for Malaysia and Brunei said, “We are very proud of our Dengue Patrollers and the zest and creativity they demonstrate in carrying out their task of raising awareness among local communities plays an important part in our collective goal to eradicate the spread of diseases like dengue in Malaysia.”

She said Sanofi, as a responsible healthcare company, will always strives to go beyond seeing things from a medical perspective.

“The health of Malaysians matter and in the case of dengue, we aim to continue playing an active role in spreading awareness about the dangers of this disease together with the education and health ministries and other agencies,” she said.

The annual national public awareness program is organised by Daily School Management Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia in collaboration with Ministry of Health and pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur as sponsor for the outreach program.

Dengue Patrol 2018 first runner-up for secondary school goes to SMK Kerteh, Terengganu with cash prize of RM3,000 and trophy. The school also won the award for Social Media with cash prize of RM1,000 and plaque.

 

Dengue Patrol 2018 second runner-up for secondary school goes to SMK Sungai Tong, Terengganu with cash prize of RM2,000 and trophy.

 

Dengue Patrol 2018 third runner-up for secondary school goes to SMK Keramat Wangsa, Kuala Lumpur with cash prize of RM1,000 and trophy.

 

SMK Presint 8 (1), Putrajaya was placed fourth runner-up of Dengue Patrol 2018 with cash prize of RM800 and trophy. The school also won an award in the Performing Arts category with cash prize of RM1,000 and plaque.
