Lexin Welfare & Charity Association dialysis centre
in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah
Thieves broke into a dialysis centre in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Johor Bahru yesterday morning and escaped with RM10,000 worth of equipment and cash.
The secretary of the association, Tan Kim Hong said that the thieves broke in through the back door of the building and ransacked the dialysis centre office located at the upper floor and carted away four computer screens, three cameras and RM5,000 cash.
He is however relieved that all the dialysis machines and other medical equipments were left untouched.
The theft was discovered by the office staff when they reported for work at 9am and saw all the computer screens inside the office missing. The medical staff had not noticed anything amiss.
The centre has been burgled twice since it started operations three years ago.
According to some employees of a nearby hotel, they heard sounds of a door being pried open at around 3am but said they mistook it for some renovation work.
Tan added that he is uncertain whether the burglary was preplanned as the security CCTV system was not functioning for several days before the incident.
A police report has been lodged by a representative from the association.
The centre opens from 6.30am to 6pm daily, and is managed by the Lexin Welfare & Charity Association.
