Miri set to host Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 final

Miri – Christine Yee, a 21-year old student standing was crowned Miss Grand Miri 2019 beating 13 other finalists.

Miri mayor Adam Yii (second from left) said Miri will host the Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 national finals on 28 April 2019, as prelude to the annual Miri May Festival. 

Miri in Sarawak will, for the very first time outside of Klang Valley, host the Miss Grand Malaysia national finals on 28 April 2019.

Miri mayor Adam Yii made the announcement during the grand coronation of Miss Grand Miri 2019 held at Meritz Hotel Miri.

“Miri is always welcoming exciting events such as Miss Grand Malaysia pageant which is an opportunity for Miri to showcase its best attractions to all Malaysians and the world.

“We fully support Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation idea and intention to stage the national pageant which will be held for a week and becoming the kick off to the annual Miri May Fest,” he said.

21-year old student Christine Yee, who is of mixed Chinese and Kayan parentage, won the Miss Grand Miri 2019 title.

Christine Yee, a 21-year old student standing at 173cm (5′ 8.1″) was crowned Miss Grand Miri 2019 beating 13 other finalists. Yee who is of mixed Chinese and Kayan parentage, will compete for Miss Grand Sarawak 2019 state level finals in March 2019.

Miss Grand Malaysia Organization national director Jude Benjamin Lisa said, “The 24 finalists of Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 are selected through the state level pageants which are currently held in various states in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.”

He said interested applicants can still apply for wildcard entry to the national pageant by submitting their profile via email to [email protected]

Debra Jeanne Poh, the reigning Miss Grand Malaysia 2018 will be crowning her successor in Miri.

The reigning Miss Grand International 2018 Clara Sosa from Paraguay and accompanied by Miss Grand International Organization president Nawat Itsaragrisil are expected to attend the Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 national pageant finals.

The winner of Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 will represent the country at the annual Miss Grand International pageant, the third largest pageant in the world where contestants have an opportunity to win cash worth $40,000 and a one year stay at a luxurious condominium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The headquarters of Miss Grand International Organisation is situated in Bangkok.
