A whopping total of 588,715 traffic summons were issued in year 2010 for various traffic offences in the state of Johor.

To date, some 242,600 summons have been paid which amounted to RM30,171,920.

It is estimated that the state authorities can collect another RM30 million from the balance of those summons which are yet to be paid, said Johor Deputy Traffic Chief, Roslan Ali yesterday.

He hoped that the public who are yet to settle and pay their traffic summons to do so immediately to avoid the last minute rush.

He advised road users should pay heed and observe the traffic rules to avoid being issued with traffic summons.

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru South OCPD, AC Zainuddin Yaacob said the long queue to pay the summons is normal for those who rush to pay their summons at the last minute.

He further added that it is a normal habit for offenders to pay their summons at the very last minute.

It was reported that 4,387,544 traffic summons were issued throughout the country for the whole of last year and to date 2,411,592 summons have been paid with a total receipt of RM277,928,570
