M’sian ustaz says women who don’t cover up deserve to be raped

KUALA LUMPUR – “Others would wear a baju kurung but the fabric is sheer, thus making it see-through under sunlight.”

An ustaz (religious teacher) got rapped for allegedly saying that women who do not cover up deserve to be sexually violated.

The ustaz was caught in a leaked clip speaking to a group of women in a lecturer hall during a marriage course conducted by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).

He was heard in one-minute video telling Muslim women to completely cover up themselves except their faces and palms in order to prevent getting sexually assaulted.

He says “Some women don’t cover up perfectly for example they wear a jubah (robe) but the fit would be tight, while others would wear a baju kurung but the fabric is sheer, thus making it see-through under sunlight.”

He then continues to say that women who dress this way cause other men to lust over them.

He then adds “Perempuan yang tak tutup aurat memang layak dicabul dan dizina” which translates to, “women who don’t cover up really deserve to be sexually abused and raped.”

Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud

Lawyer and Democratic Action Party (DAP) politician Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud has criticised the religious teacher over his remarks.

“Dear ustaz, the one that is dead wrong with our society is not what ppl wear but your lack of respect for consent, your abusive mentality against women, (and) you think you are right and holy to teach people,” she tweeted.

She also added that no one deserved to be sexually violated even if they were walking around naked in public.

Dyana Sofya’s tweet was retweeted over 1,400 times, with many expressing disgust over what the preacher has said.
