All Malaysians in Yemen were safe and the security situation was very much under control, Yemen’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Abdullah Mohamed Al Montaser said today.
Speaking to Bernama, he said there were about 600 Malaysians, mostly students and professionals, in Yemen.
He described media reports on demonstrations as “exaggerated” and that they were confined to only certain areas in the capital city, Saana.
Abdullah said the political situation in Yemen should not be equated with other countries in the West Asian region, adding that the opposition in Yemen was well organised and represented in Parliament.
“We could say that there is vibrant democracy in Yemen and there was no reason for the people to topple an elected government,” he added.
He said the government was very accommodating and always willing to talk to the Opposition as it was concerned for the well being of the people.
