Serene Shoong Yoke Ling, 21, from Kuala Lumpur said it was her first time in an audition and explained her reason for joining the pageant.

“There are many reasons that gave me the courage to join this pageant. However, the most important one which I think is Miss Virtual Malaysia (MVM) is such a great opportunity for me to challenge myself to discover my inner self and to spread positivity across the world as I would like to bring up the awareness of depression which silently kills many people.

“I would want to explore a new platform and become more confident. I want to enjoy myself in the progress as there is much to learn and gain more friendships and connections with participants,” she said.

Shoong standing 168 cm (5’ 6”) tall is currently pursuing a degree course of actuarial studies in Sunway University.

“To be frank, I wasn’t an eye shadow enthusiast. I had to learn how to apply it by surfing YouTube. Not only that, I’ve also searched on ‘How to Catwalk and Pose’ ‘How Casting Works’ and so many more that I was afraid I will be very awkward if I don’t know any of these,” she said on her preparation before coming to the audition.

“I am starting to take adulthood and my future even more seriously and it makes me have the urge to be a responsible and determined person to strive for what I aim for. I may be shy and scared sometimes but I wish to overcome it through MVM and I am willing to learn anything and everything, if possible. Even if I lose, I will never be a quitter,” she said.

Shoong’s ambition is to become an entrepreneur and a social influencer to share happiness around the world. She enjoys reading, hiking, jogging and playing the piano and singing along with it. She is planning to join aerial yoga or muay thai if she is given a bit more freedom.
