Pontian beefing up to be an eco-tourism district

The district of Pontian has great potential to be a successful eco-tourism district, Pontian district officer Mohamed Karim said.

The district of Pontian has great potential to be a successful eco-tourism district, Pontian district officer Mohamed Karim said.

He was speaking while officiating the Johor Eco-Mangrove Awareness 2011 programme in Taman Negar, Tanjong Piai yesterday.

Elaborating further, he said that the Johor National Park in Tanjong Piai has many unique species which can become an attractive tourism destination.

He said that the place has geomorfolical, scientific, educational and recrational values.

In addition to that, the district has three RAMSAR areas, namely Pulau Kukup, Tanjung Piai and Sungai Pulai where the locals can capitalise and improvise on to create eco-tourism related activities and products.
