The much awaited and talked about Johor Bahru Chingay will take place today at 10.00am until 2.00pm.
Thousands of worshippers converged at the Jalan Trus ancient Chinese temple today morning to “invite” the deities to “cruise” the city and bless its worshippers along the way in a specially prepared sedan chairs, each carried by 10 worshippers.
The procession will move from Jalan Trus and end at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak where specially erected tents and altars are set up to place all the deities to allow worshippers to pay their respects and seek blessings.
The night scene in Johor Bahru will come alive again tomorrow when some 300,000 people are expected to line the main streets of the city to watch the annual chingay procession.
The chingay procession will parade off at 7.00pm at Jalan Ulu Ayer Molek and move along Jalan Yahya Awal, Jalan Ibrahim Sultan, Jalan Wong Ah Fook and end at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak.
All affected roads will be closed to traffic from 5.00pm to 1.00am.
The return journey for the deities back to the ancient temple in Jalan Trus will take place on Thursday at 10.00am.
