Foreign Minister Anifah Aman urged parents and family members whose children or family members were in the middle ?east or North Africa, to remain calm, violent protests continued to cloud the?countries involved.
Anifah said though internet or TV stations like Al Jazeera, BBC and CNN were? showing footage as if there were mass violent protests, the security and safety ?situation remains under control because such incidents were concentrated in a ?few places and not throughout the countries concerned.
The Foreign Minister told Malaysian reporters that the Foreign Ministry was? closely monitoring the situation in countries like Algeria, Bahrain, Libya and ?Yemen while the Embassies in Algiers, Manama, Tripoli and Sana’a have been put? on alert to help Malaysians staying in the respective countries.
Anifah is here with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who starts a? three-day official visit to Turkey, tomorrow.
“The embassies will keep Malaysians in the respective countries of the?developments and the necessary advise, especially to avoid or keep away from?troubled or high risk areas,” he said.
He said in Algeria there were 60 Malaysians registered with the embassy, 500 ?in Bahrain, 150 in Libya and 646 in Yemen.
Anifah also advised those who were staying in the countries but have not?registered with the embassy, to do so, immediately.
“As a precaution, those who have not registered must come forward and?register themselves to ease the process of relocation if necessary,” he said.
The respective embassies have also set up operation rooms to provide?information and monitor the situation and condition of Malaysians, he said.
