On February 19, an attempt will be made to enter the Malaysia Book of Records for flying 3,000 kites in the on-going sixteenth Pasir Gudang World Kites Festival in Johor, which ends Sunday.
A total of 3,000 secondary students from various schools around Pasir Gudang will be flying kites for this purpose.
The five-day long Pasir Gudang World Kites Festival, which started on February 16, is organised by the state government, the Pasir Gudang Municipality Council, the Johor Tourism Department and the Johor Kite Flying Association.
The event is also listed as an official event on the Johor Tourism Calendar and is said to be the largest of its kind in the world.
The president of the Pasir Gudang Town Council, A Rahim Nin, said that this year festival is expected to draw no less than 100,000 spectators.
