As mounting worry about the current coronavirus outbreak that continues to spread and more cases confirmed, the organiser has announced that this year’s Asia GT Festival scheduled from 13-15 March 2020 will not happen and has been postponed to minimise the risk of exposure to all stakeholders.
It said attention will now be focused on planning out next year 2021 Asia GT Festival.
“The escalation of the coronavirus pandemic and the associated health risks have led to a decision to postpone the event to reduce the risks to the motorsport community in Asia. The health of Teams, drivers, sponsors and partners, media, series organisation staff and most importantly race fans are of the utmost importance to us and thus a decision has been made to postpone the event to next year 2021 to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders,” said a statement posted on the Asia GT Festival Facebook.
It further said that announcement on updates will be made as the situation progresses.
After the success of its debut event in March last year which attracted a nearly 40,000 crowd throughout the three-day event, the Asia GT Festival 2020 was set to return to Sepang International Circuit (SIC) for the second time this year from 13-15 March. The main event will feature one race held outside China in the China GT Championship which features 12 rounds of races over six weekends.
