The 16 finalists of Mrs Malaysia Petite/Mrs Elite Malaysia Petite 2020 pageant competed in the preliminary talent preview show held at Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 9, 2020.
The competition generated a lot of excitement from the audience as the petite beauties displayed their talent skills in various acts such as singing, dancing, kick-boxing, yoga, playing guzheng and public speaking.
The competition is open to petite married women with height requirement of below 162 cm (5′ 3″) and divided into two age-group categories. Group A for contestants aged 25 to 40 competing for Mrs Malaysia Petite 2020 title, and Group B for contestants 41 to 65 years of age competing for Mrs Elite Malaysia Petite 2020 title.
At the end of the competition, the best talent winners, three from Mrs Malaysia Petite and five from Mrs Elite Malaysia Petite, were announced after they impressed the talent show judges with their performances.
Group A category winners are Vivien Ong Yoke Qin (playing guzheng), Chole Ching Siau Fong (strong by zumba) and Gladys Tia Hwei Ping (dance).
Group B category winners are Irene Tan Poo Kim (yoga), Jeslyn Sau Chet Yee (cultural modern dance remix), Lim Mai Yan (boxing), Cammy Chiw Wei Koon (rap song) and Nana Tham (singing).
The eight winners have secured their spots in the pageant grand final where they will be competing with each other for Best Talent subsidiary title for group A and B categories.
The Mrs Malaysia Petite / Mrs Elite Malaysia Petite 2020 pageant grand finale will be held at Royale Chulan Damansara Hotel, Petaling Jaya on March 21.
The impressive all-women panel of judges that determined the talent winners comprised of past and reigning beauty queens who included Datin Carol Siew (Mrs. Universe Entrepreneur 2017- South Africa), Datin Geraldine (Mrs. Malaysia Tourism Queen International 2017), Cindy Ng (Mrs Universe Elegance 2018), Ammetta Malhotra (Mrs. Universe Classic II 2019), Renee Tang (Supermodel Ambassador), Melanie Foo (Mrs Classic International 2018), Sydney Mak (Mrs Malaysia Universe 2015), Chris Leong (Mrs Planet Continental Asia Winner 2019), Michelle Gait (Mrs Elite Malaysia Universe 2018 1st runner-up), Toh Suan Sim (Mrs. Planet 2019), May Piong (Mrs. Malaysia Universe 2019 Elegance Ambassador), Lyann Loh (Mrs Malaysia Petite World 2018) and Mabel Tung (creative brand image director).
Pint-sized beautician Chole Ching Siau Fong, 33, from Tampin, Negeri Sembilan said she joined the pageant for the first time after encouragement from a friend.
“This is my first pageant experience. Initially I was a bit worry but now that I have make it to the pageant final, it has given me the confidence,” said Ching with a petite 142 cm (4’ 8”) frame.
She is a strong woman and loves challenges. A fitness fanatic, she is taking workout up a notch by adding Strong by Zumba to her Zumba repertoire. The Strong by Zumba is a revolutionary high-intensity cardio workout where every move in the jump, punch and kick is synchronised to the music.
The audience enjoyed her Strong by Zumba performance at the talent show. She said it took her a week to learn all the different set of rhythmic movements.
The mother of a 3-year-old kid owns and operates her own beauty salon for 10 years.
Another first-time beauty pageant contestant Crystal Lim Sock Kuey, 46, from Sitiawan, Perak, also a beautician, was ecstatic when she was chosen as a finalist. A friend who likes pageants convinced her to join the pageant.
Standing 153 cm (5 feet) Lim said she is happy being selected a finalist. She hopes to enjoy her first beauty pageant experience.
“I will make use of this opportunity to get to know more people and learn new things. I do not really have any expectations on placing but I will do my best at the pageant grand finals,” said the mother of four children, the youngest at age 8 years and the eldest 18 years old.
Lim has been running a beauty salon for 15 years and finds joy in making people attractive and good looking.
Pageant organiser Madam Lim Siew Cheng said she was amazed by the contestants for bringing out their best performance.
“Petite women are very talented and skilful. I’m very proud of them for their talent ability and displaying courage and confidence up on the stage. They are both beautiful on the inside and outside,” said Madam Lim praising the contestants.
The event also saw dance performances and a fashion show presented by models from Supermodel Universe Malaysia.
