EDKL launches initiative to help homegrown restaurants stay afloat

KUALA LUMPUR – The Faith For The Future project, seeks to support Malaysian restaurants with an immediate cash infusion to help fund the current cost of their staff salaries, rental and other expenses.

Eat Drink KL has launched the Faith For The Future project, which seeks to support Malaysian restaurants with an immediate cash infusion to help fund the current cost of their staff salaries, rental and other expenses.

Customers can purchase a cash voucher at eatdrinkkl.com/faith that they can redeem for dining in or takeaway. This initiative was launched on 25 March 2020, with the vouchers to remain on sale through May 2020.

Each purchase takes only one to two minutes – no sign-up or log-in required. Customers can select the restaurant where they plan to redeem their voucher. The RM25, RM50 and RM100 vouchers will be emailed immediately to them.

The restaurant will receive the funds within three working days of each purchase. The vouchers can be utilised once the restaurants reopen fully for business; they’re currently scheduled to expire exactly four months after they’re purchased. As a token of appreciation, customers will enjoy 10 percent off their total bill in one receipt when they redeem their voucher.

“This is our contribution to support restaurants, cafes and bars, to help them and their people continue to welcome everyone for a meal. Faith is the foundation of this project – faith that there’s a future for restaurants, that customers who can afford it will share in the effort to keep their favourite eateries alive.” said Eat Drink KL editor Sean Yoong.

Eat Drink KL receives a RM3 fee from the restaurant for each purchase, mainly to cover technology, banking and administrative costs. The project now comprises more than 80 homegrown venues – everything from ayam goreng kunyit in the city centre to kakigori in the suburbs with more to come.
