In support of Malaysian healthcare workers on the frontline of the Covid-19 outbreak, the Malaysian Estate Owners’ Association (MEOA) made a contribution of 30,000 surgical face masks to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang (HTAR) on Monday, 6 April 2020.
Representatives from MEOA – an association established in 1931 to promote, foster and protect the interests of the plantation industry in Malaysia, were led by its Councillor, Mr. Lim Kim Long.
MEOA’s President Mr. Jeffrey Ong said: “This initiative is a gesture of our appreciation and support for our unsung medical heroes, who are working tirelessly round the clock to fight this outbreak. We hope that this humble contribution will help alleviate the hospital’s shortage of surgical face masks. As HTAR is located in Klang – one of the hotspots of the Covid-19 outbreak, it is especially important that the medical frontlines are well protected as they perform their duties and head home safe to their loved ones.”
“We commend the efforts of our medical heroes and would like to urge our fellow Malaysians to support them by staying at home during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, so that we can flatten the curve. Lately the number of cases has been decreasing while recovery rates are soaring; giving us a ray of hope to fighting the pandemic. The MEOA and the plantation industry are also abiding by the MCO as we have implemented a voluntary lockdown based on our COVID-19 operating procedure for both the plantation and mills’ operations,” continued Ong.
HTAR Klang’s Hospital Director Datin Paduka Dr. Hasni Binti Hanapi said: “We are grateful for this donation of surgical masks, which is part of much-needed personal protective equipment. This will definitely boost the morale of our medical and healthcare frontlines who are diligently working to ensure the well-being of our patients.”
