Mysterious woman continues to donate millions to orphans even years after her demise

While willing for charity has become increasingly common in recent years, perpetual acts of charity like that of “Madam W” that is carried out annually and without limitation of a time frame is not common

A mysterious wealthy woman only known as “Madam W” has been donating yearly to orphanages in Malaysia since she died in 2013.

Rockwills Trustee Bhd CEO Azhar Iskandar Hew said the woman had instructed in her will that a portion of her estate amounting to RM6 million was to be held in trust for the sole purpose of investment and its earnings to be utilised to fund orphanages.

“Since 2013 when Rockwills Trustee Bhd was appointed as trustee, a total of over RM1.1 million has been distributed each year to about 20 orphanages.” Azhar said in a statement today

This year alone, the profits from those investments totalled nearly RM190,000 with the money spread across 20 orphanages that take care of children of various races and religions.

“As the proceeds were distributed equally, each of the 20 orphanages received RM9,465.20, (total RM189,304.02) benefiting 1,100 orphans. Madam W’s selfless act of charity is still benefiting the underprivileged even years after her demise,” Azhar added.

This year’s donations hold even more importance with orphanages and charities severely affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Azhar said while willing for charity has become increasingly common in recent years, perpetual acts of charity like that of “Madam W” that is carried out annually and without limitation of a time frame is not common.

“It is an example of a well-formulated estate plan to be considered and followed. It underscores that wills and trusts can be effective and versatile estate planning tools for wealth distribution to not just loved ones but also deserving segments of society.”

A trust donation presentation ceremony was held today at Menara AmFirst in Petaling Jaya. Among the beneficiaries were Good Samaritan Home, Rumah Bakti Dato’ Harun (Pertubuhan Pendidikan Anak-Anak Yatim Selangor), House of Joy and Desa Amal Jireh.

Azhar said Rockwills Trustee had an internal operations committee comprising directors and senior management staff to make sure that Madam W’s trust was invested in appropriate investments that would give steady returns annually without jeopardising the capital placed in the trust.
