12 MCKL students bag top awards in Cambridge exams

Twelve students from Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) have received the prestigious awards from Cambridge Assessment International Education to acknowledge their outstanding examination performance.

Seven from among the twelve students received the ‘Top in the World’ Award in the  internationally recognised Outstanding Cambridge Leaner Awards.

The awards, part of the University of Cambridge, celebrates students who has shown exemplary achievement in Cambridge International exams which are taken by students in over 160 countries around the world. 

Eng Wai Lam Simpson stood at first place and was crowned with the ‘Best Across Three  Award’ for his exceptional performance as ‘Top in the World’ in the subjects of Further  Mathematics & Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry respectively, by Cambridge  Assessment International Education.

“I would like to raise my highest appreciation to my mathematics lecturers, Mr Samuel,  Ms Lim and Miss Koh for the best and personalised tips on improving. I would also like to  send my word of appreciation to my friends for their love and support in and out of the  classroom. Lastly, my parents for being that wall I can embrace whenever I am lost” Simpson said on his achievement.

Meanwhile, the other six Top in the World Award recipients from MCKL are Saranya  Anandraj (Law), Adrianna Eva Alfred Tais (Literature in English), Liew Xiao  Theng (Psychology), Alvin Chan Zheng Jing (Mathematics), Chan Junwin (Mathematics), and Lum Ting Fang (Mathematics).

Last year, more than one million students participated in Cambridge International-based examinations from over  10,000 schools around the world, including the UK, the USA, China, India, Singapore and Malaysia. 

Ms Angela Pok, CEO of MCKL, said they are incredibly proud of  their Cambridge A Level students’ achievements, and that beating the competition for such a highly contested award by almost a million students around the globe is not an easy feat. 

“Our students’ achievements are not only impressive, but they are also highly relevant as  well. As the world is quickly evolving creating a more highly competitive and demanding  environment, it is important to have a firm grasp on global academics skills which are key  elements to succeed in this fast-changing world”.
