MRCA and DSAM pledge support for white flag initiative to provide essential food supplies for 8,000 needy families.

The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) and Direct Selling Association of Malaysia (DSAM) joined hands in pledging support for white flag movement to help those in need of assistance.

The white flag campaign was initiated by the community to help those who are struggling financially and in desperate need of food or supplies amid an extension of lockdown due to the pandemic.

In a joint statement, MRCA and DSAM said they are participating in this charitable cause to provide immediate assistance in the form of food supplies with a hope to lessen the suffering of the rakyat.

“It is harrowing to read the news of the financial hardship faced by fellow Malaysians due to the extension of movement control order (MCO) in response to the rise of Covid-19 infections.

“While some have had their salary reduced, many more who have lost their livelihood are now struggling to put food on the table for their families.

“These are unprecedented times in the history of Malaysia which calls for MRCA and DSAM, working together, to lend a hand to help all those in need during this critical period,” said the statement.

MRCA and DSAM have committed funds of RM400,000 to purchase essential food items including rice, eggs, instant noodles, vermicelli noodle, malt-based drink powder, dry biscuits, cooking oil, salt and sugar.

According to the statement, each food basket worth RM50 can be distributed to 8,000 needy families. The food supplies will be distributed from 3rd July onwards targeting homes of needy families and residents in Klang Valley and Selangor.

“Currently we have received commitments of more than RM400,000 from various kind donors, including DSAM and MRCA Branding Education Charity who have each donated RM150,000.

“We aim to achieve more than RM1 million in donations through our members and from corporate sponsorships,” it added.
