‘Let’s Recycle for Charity’a campaign by Nestle Malaysia has succeeded in collecting a total of 342 tonnes of Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) materials through its door-to-door and strata recycling programme.
The campaign had targeted a total of 70,000 households in the Klang Valley throughout the duration of the initiative from April 15 April to May 31, 2022.
Having successfully achieved its target, the company had pledged to donate a total of RM20,000 in charity to support those in need.
The company presented duit raya and product hampers to two charity homes nominated by participating residents.
The homes which are Pusat Jagaan Sri Mesra in Ampang, Selangor and Rumah KIDS in Subang Jaya, each received RM10,000 in cash and a year’s worth of supply of Nestle products.
“Generosity and charity are central to the spirit of the Raya festivities. With that in mind, we wanted to provide Malaysians with a platform to give back to the community during the recent Ramadan and Raya season. We are truly heartened by the positive response to our campaign and deeply grateful to the many Malaysians who were willing to adopt greener habits to support those in need,” said Nestle Malaysia group corporate affairs executive director Dato’ Adnan Pawanteh.
“More importantly, this is also part of our drive to tackle plastic waste in shaping a waste-free future. Engaging and educating the public on recycling is key to our efforts, and this campaign presented an excellent opportunity to inculcate good recycling habits for a more sustainable future.
“In conjunction with the festivities, we also provided relevant recycling tips for the residents such as recycling kuih raya containers,” Adnan added.
Since its inception in 2020, Nestle’s pioneering waste collection and recycling programme had collected over 2,000 tonnes of DMR through its recycling programme and aims to reach 100,000 households by year end.
Nestle Malaysia’s recycling programmes are supported by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ), Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ), Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA), Alam Flora Environmental Solutions (AFES), KPT Recycle Sdn Bhd and Tetra Pak Malaysia.
