The Kedah Government will build new homes for those whose houses were badly damaged in the recent floods in the state.
Its federal action committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom, said the extent of the damage would determine the type of assistance to be offered.
For houses considered as total loss, he said the state authorities would negotiate with land owners to decide whether new houses should be built in the same location or elsewhere.
In this respect, Mohd Johari, who is also agriculture and agro-based industry deputy minister, said government agencies such as National Security Council and Kedah Regional Development Authority would be involved.
He was speaking to reporters after a premiere gotong-royong programme in Kampung Wang Tepus near here.
The programme — to repair houses damaged by the floods — was organised by the Kubang Pasu Barisan Nasional component party leaders.
Johari said compassionate money would also be given to lighten the burden of the flood victims in lieu of the new school term.
