Yohan Charles Jayasuriya is not your average cosplayer. He recently conquered Mount Kinabalu in a full Iron Man Bodysuit.
If you are curious, he did not use the jet boots and repulsor rays to fly to the top.
Yohan, a 41-year-old DJ and emcee from Kota Kinabalu, climbed the mountain wearing an Iron Man bodysuit weighing three kilograms.
Second attempt
Yohan is no stranger to Mount Kinabalu, as he had previously scaled the mountain twelve times.
Nevertheless, he attempted another climb with the Iron Man suit back in June 2020 with veterinary surgeon Dr Randolf Paza.
Dr Randolf stated that the reason for them doing the climb in such a unique way is to promote the activity of climbing Mount Kinabalu.
Yohan attempted the climb with 2 other Spiderman cosplayers.
However, the climb was called off due to the bad weather.
Support Duchenne syndrome
Yohan’s recent climb is to create awareness of Duchenne syndrome (DMD).
The climb was part of the 10th annual Mt. Kinabalu expedition, held by an NGO called Coalition Duchenne.
Duchenne syndrome or DMD is a genetic disorder that affects the muscles, prevalent in young boys.
It starts early in childhood, and muscles weaken and worsen (less flexible) over time.
Coalition Duchenne is a non-profit organization that raises global awareness.
They raise funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy through donations and annual fundraising events.
Love for Iron Man and Cosplay
Yohan is a well-known cosplayer in Kota Kinabalu, and his love for this art started eight years ago.
Since then, he has been donning the Iron Man suit for charity and local community events.
During the MCO in 2020, Yohan donned the suit to distribute food to the needy around his hometown, Penampang.
He even went for his vaccination in the Iron man suit to create awareness for the Covid-19 vaccine.
While Tony Stark zips around in his Iron Man bodysuit fighting enemies, Yohan will continue to don the suit to help the needy.
