Graduates with first-class bachelor’s degrees will be exempt from repaying their PTPTN loan.

Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the National Higher Education (PTPTN) loan repayments exemption during PTPTN‘s silver jubilee celebration.

Currently, such exemptions only apply to borrowers from the B40 and M40 income groups.

“This incentivises the students to study hard and obtain the best results,” said Ismail

PTPTN will give the exemption regardless of socio-economic status, race and religion,” he added.

The government provides RM3 billion in study loans yearly to 180,000 students through PTPTN.

Currently, 3.67 million students obtained study loans amounting to RM66.87 billion.

Up until last month, 17.8 billion loans have been settled.

Earlier, the government announced that almost 80,000 students were eligible for loan repayment exemptions on amounts totalling RM2.06 billion from PTPTN.
