Many fishermen in Terengganu, particularly in the Marang district, have not been going out to fish over the last few days due to the rough sea and bad weather.
Marang Fishermen’s Association Chairman Zahan Mamat said today only a small number of the estimated 100 boats in the district had gone out to sea today.
“They are not going out (to sea) because it is not worthwhile. Fortunately, they have the RM200 monthly allowance from the government,” he told Bernama.
Zahan said fish landing in Marang during the monsoon season usually dropped about 50 per cent and the district would have to depend on fish from Perlis and Kedah to meet demand.
