Selangor launches new village portal to preserve heritage

An Internet portal named ‘I-kgbaru’ has been setup by Selangor state government to exhibit the identity of new villages to villagers, Selangor residents and foreigners.

The tri-lingual website features the history, facts, local associations and schools of 41 new villages in Selangor.

Selangor new village development exco, Ean Yong Hian Wah said the site would serve as the communication platform between local residents, government and various stakeholders.

“We hope to promote products and identity of new villages and hence will raise the economic status of villagers,” he said when answering a question raised in Selangor state assembly today.

He added that the state government would continue to focus on the two pressing issues faced by villagers – land and infrastructure.

“Although new villages in Selangor have been around for 60 years and fishing villages have more than 100 years of history, many villagers still do not own a land permit to their properties,”

He said the state’s policy is to grant out land permit to villagers who have been residing on government lands for more than 15 years and fulfill essential criteria.

He listed that in the last two years, the numbers of land permits granted to new villages are as below:

Village Land Permit Granted
Kg Bukit Angkat 22
Kg Baru Tarun Broga 160
Kg Bagan Sekinchan 183
Kg Baru Gurney 30
Kg Baru Damai 12
