The Big Bad Wolf Books (BBWB) was launched in Kuala Lumpur in 2009 by BookXcess‘ founders, Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng.
Malaysians generally associate BBWB with its mega book fair throughout the country. The fair offers books at very attractive prices, prompting visitors to arrive with boxes and carts.
Ultimately, in line with the founder’s core philosophy, BBWB encourages people of all ages to discover the joys of reading.
They believe that everyone can gain knowledge that prepares them for the world through reading.
For this noble reason, BBWB‘s sales have grown exponentially, going global and touring 34 cities in 13 countries, selling more than 30 million books.
Humble beginning
The founders went from their humble store selling magazines in 2007 to blitzing around the region, setting up mega book fairs in 10 years.
“We were one small stall and were on a mission to change an entire country.
“It was a very daunting task. It was one book at a time,” said Jacqueline during an interview with Dubai-based Khaleej Times.
Meanwhile, Andrew said they named their book store BookXcess because their objective was to give access to people.
He added that they bought books in bulk at an attractive price, which enabled them to sell at significant discounts.
Seeing that people loved buying books, the idea came to Andrew to hold a big book sale event to sell more books than what he could sell in a year at his store.
Big Bad Wolf Books mega book fairs and online sales frenzy
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale specialises in providing the widest selection of English books at discounts as high as 90%.
The sale offers various genres ranging from science-fiction and thrillers to literature, business, cookbooks, art and design, to children’s books, including many other sought-after books, to suit and accommodate everyone’s needs.
