Permatang Rawa stadium awaits sports enthusiasts with new facilities

The Permatang Rawa mini stadium is equipped with a FIFA-approved artificial high technology synthetic grass from Italy and five futsal courts.

Sunday marked the official launch of the Stadium Mini Permatang Rawa in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam.

Governor of Penang, His Excellency Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Abdul Razak officiated the stadium.

State exco for youth and sports Soon Lip Chee, state exco for infrastructure and transportation Zairil Khir Johari, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, Seberang Jaya state assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin and AEI International Bhd director Dato Joseph Kow attended the launch.

The mini stadium was ready in October 2021 and opened its doors to the public in November.

Penang state government appointed AEI International Berhad to operate, maintain, and run the mini stadium.

Late last year, the Penang state government signed a deal with the Penang Stadium and Open Spaces Corporation and AEI Internation to upgrade the Permatang Rawa Mini Stadium.

According to the Penang chief minister, Chow Kon Yeow, the upgrading works on the stadium cost RM 2.4 million, borne by the state government and the balance of RM 1.135 million absorbed by AEI International.

AEI International will be managing the stadium for the next 15 years.

“The stadium was in bad condition and needed an upgrade. We took it up as the state government requested, which is part of our CSR initiative, said AEI director Dato’ Joseph Kow.

The work done on the stadium includes the field upgrade from regular grass to upgraded with a FIFA-approved artificial high technology synthetic grass from Italy and flood lights for night matches.

Apart from that, the mini stadium also has two outdoor and three indoor futsal grounds.

AEI International Berhad said that the mini stadium would be a place to nurture the love of sports and play among communities.

The stadium should also be the sporting venue of choice for all football and futsal players in Penang.

Stadium Mini Permatang Rawa operates daily from 8am to 4am daily.
