The Sutera Mall in Johor Bahru yesterday was full of activity as the weekend crowd were welcomed with an event organized by the Royaty Club and a voters registration kiosk.
Officers from the Election Commission (SPR) along with several volunteers set up a booth in the popular mall in order to register voters who find it difficult to visit the SPR offices and post offices during working hours.
Potential voters who were yet to register themselves only need to provide their Identification Cards (IC) in order to register themsleves at the kiosk itself.
One of SPR’s assistant registrar, Lau Lay Sung, said that the response to the kiosk was very good and there were at least 50 new voters registered by mid-day.
Around the same time, the Rotary Club of Johor Straits View D3310 had also organized a Spot Art Competitionin the same mall, which was meant to cultivate art among the children who participated in the competition.
“We did this competition with the theme of preserving the nature,” said the Chairperson of the Family of Rotary Children Art Competition, Bella Khor.
She hoped that the children would be able to imagine and will be aware of how the world will be like when they become adults.
After the competition, which also served as a platform from the Rotarian family to mingle with each other, a mini art class was also held for the public where the basic art skills were presented.
“It is interesting, I think the children are able to draw to an extent, to the resemblance of what can be expected in an artwork,” said the art teacher Kao Yang Ooi, who is also a Rotary member.
