Taman Sri Muda flood water have subsided

The flood water in Taman Sri Muda have subsided said Selangor Bomba chief Norazam Khamis at around 7.30 pm.

A heavy downpour which started around 5 pm today caused the flood scare in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said flood waters have risen to about 2.5-feet deep since 6 pm.

“At the moment, flood water has yet to enter houses. We have not done any evacuation at the moment,” he said in a statement today.

Shah Alam fire and rescue station had responded to a distress call received at 4.55 pm and dispatched two boats with six firefighters.

A quick check with the residents around Sri Muda revealed some houses are seeing ankle-deep flood water.

“We are preparing for any eventualities even though the water is just up to the ankle, said G Murthy, who also experienced the worst flood last December.

Meanwhile, Murthy said that the flood water has risen around the Sri Muda roundabout heading towards Kota Kemuning. However, vehicles are still able to pass through the road.

Taman Sri Muda was one of the worst-hit areas in Shah Alam during the Dec 2021 floods, which displaced over 14,000 people.

Videos and images posted on social media showed roads in the area inundated by water and drains close to their maximum capacity.

Many have asked residents of Sri Muda to secure their safety and valuables.

Minister of Housing and Local Government, Dato Sri Reezal Merican, posted on Twitter that he had asked the fire department to be on alert to evacuate the affected residents.
