AirAsia group chief commercial officer Karen Chan said that the airline remains committed to connecting people with their loved ones, which is particularly important this Merdeka.
“Many of our customers have not been able to travel or visit their loved ones for over two years.
”We want to take this opportunity to thank our customers by providing great value airfares so that everyone can fly again.
“As a proud Malaysian brand, we are here for our people and will continue to support local tourism as we strengthen our network and reactivate all our routes to pre-pandemic capacity by early 2023.
“We are thrilled to support Keluarga Malaysia, and in line with the Merdeka theme of strength and togetherness, we hope everyone will take this opportunity to unite with friends and family and, at the same time, help boost local tourism and the Malaysian economy,” she said.
Following the recent strong travel rebound and full reopening of the country’s border this year, AirAsia has recorded a quadruple-digit growth in the total number of passengers flown by over 1,038% from January to August 2022 as compared to the same period last year.
The airline is also rapidly expanding its domestic network to support significant pent-up demand.
They have launched several new routes, including Kota Kinabalu-Kuala Terengganu, Bintulu-Johor Bahru and Penang-Sibu.
As a result, AirAsia has flown over 7.4 million guests domestically from January to August this year, a sharp increase of 849% from 2021.
