Selangor govt issues alert for the high tide phenomenon

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the warning forecasted that high tide phenomena expected to occur in some areas in Selangor today.

Selangor government had alerted residents in Klang, Kuala Selangor and nearby areas following the high tide phenomenon beginning today.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the warning forecasted that high tide phenomena would occur today.

“We have already issued a warning regarding the high tide for tomorrow, September 14th and 15th, with a height of more than five meters.

On December 17 and 18 last year, the tide reached up 4.7 to 4.8 metres,” he told Bernama today.

Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasted scattered thunderstorms in Selangor, with strong winds predicted to lash coastal areas.

The region will experience the monsoon transition phase until early November, and the Meteorological Department warned people to keep away from the seaside and rivers.

The high tide phenomenon will begin at 6.42 am on September 11, with tides forecast at 5.4m.

The tide will be at its highest at 5.5m on September 12 at 7.18 am and forecast to be at 5.4m at 7.49 am on September 13.

On September 14, at 8.16 am, the tide will be at 5.3m.

The state government also advised those living in Kuala Langat, Sepang, and Sabak Bernam to heed the authorities’ broadcasts and relocate to designated relief centres when needed.

In Klang district, areas particularly vulnerable to floods due to the tidal waves in Klang are Taman Daya Meru, Jalan Teratai Meru, Jalan Keledang Meru, Pengkalan Tok Muda, Bund Sementa, Bund Sungai Keramat, 5th Mile of Jalan Kapar, Jalan Pandamaran, Taman Selat Damai in Pendamar,
Kampung Perepat-Fishermen’s Jetty, Northport in Port Klang, Pulau Ketam and Telok Gong.

Other areas expected to be affected are Pantai Kelanang and Persisir Pantai Tanjung Sepatin Kuala Langat as well as Persisir Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sepang.

The sites to be monitored in Sabak Bernam are Tebuk Mendeling, Sungai Ayer Tawar and Sungai Panjang while in Kuala Selangor, the areas are Tanjung Karang, Kampung Kuantan, Pantai Remis and Pekan Sungai Buloh.

Amirudin also said the state government would propose several measures like sending in advance equipment to temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in areas frequently flooded.

He said this is to avoid panic, which happened during the 2021 December floods..
