Taman Suria’s drainage to be upgraded

Recurring flash flood at Taman Suria had prompted a visit from Selangor MB, Khalid Ibrahim. He instructed Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor to upgrade the drainage system in the housing area.

Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) has been instructed to improve the drainage system in Taman Suria, Batang Berjuntai in an effort to stop the flash flood recurring.

The instruction was given by Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim to MDKS officer Mohd Misri Idris during the former’s visit to a hand glove factory located right beside Taman Suria recently.

The factory was said to be the main cause of the frequent flooding due the toxic wastage discharged from the factory which has clogged drains and polluted the environment.

However, Khalid upon inspecting the factory’s operation and facilities convinced that the factory does filter it’s wastage before letting it out.

He pointed out that the close proximity between Taman Suria and Kawasan Perusahaan Suria has contributed to the floods, as the housing estate was not developed according to relevant  property  guidelines.

“By right there should be a 500 meter buffer zone between an industrial zone and a housing area. But Taman Suria was built in less than 100m from the hand glove factory back in 1992,” said Khalid.

He said to rectify the woes, drainage system within the area must be upgraded to avoid an overflow of the factory’s wastage which will lead to flood during a heavy downpour.

The factory’s management, in response, agreed to provide financial aids in widening the drains.
