Petaling Jaya (PJ) residents can leap in joy as Selangor exco for local government Ronnie Liu announced that household assessment rate within the city will be cut down.
Liu was reported saying this during the launch of Taman Megah market with PJ City Council (MBPJ) president Roslan Sakiman on Sunday. However the range of reduction was not mentioned.
He also lauded MBPJ for its wise management, as the 2 percent reduction of assessment rate implemented since last year did not bring any shortfall to the council refering to the surplus budget accumulated by MBPJ.
“For sure there will be a further reduction later,” said Ronnie.
The current assessment rate ranges from 5.5 to 8.8 percent depending on the type of property and location.
Meanwhile, he also announced that Selangor is gearing up to introduce a “landscape zone” project to 12 local councils in the state.
He said the project will require every local council to select an area or space within its municipality to be upgraded as a landscape park.
He said the idea was conceived during his visit to China cities of Xiamen and Hang Zhou, where flora and green space are well integrated in the cities.
“Hence I hope Selangor can emulate them in term of city beautification,” he added.
Liu also said that Selangor government will allocate funds for the project.
The launch also saw 62 traders making up a good use of the RM3million modern market, which furnished with hawker centre, disabled facilities and non-halal food.
