197 Kenwark workers sacked

MTUC Vice-President A. Balasubramaniam said of these, 102 were Bangladeshis and the rest Malaysians.

A total of 197 workers from the troubled Kenmark Industries Sdn Bhd have been served with termination letters with immediate effect, the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) said.

MTUC Vice-President A. Balasubramaniam said of these, 102 were Bangladeshis and the rest Malaysians.

“The workers are yet to receive payment for last month,” said Balasubramaniam, who was at the factory to assist the workers to file claims with the Labour Department.

He said the department should expedite the placement of these workers, especially the locals.

The trouble with the furniture maker company began on May 28 when all the 400 workers were locked out and the owners believed to have gone overseas.

A few days later it was taken over by a new management and workers were told to come back to work.

Last week the High Court issued a liquidation order against the company following a claim filed by the Export-Import Bank.
