Sunway Uni established its position as one of Malaysia’s top universities, ranking as the No. 1 non-government linked university private university

Sunway University has once again established its position as one of Malaysia’s top universities, ranking as the No. 1 non-government linked university private university in Malaysia and one of the country’s top 10 universities in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023.

The rankings are the largest and most diverse worldwide, covering 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions. Sunway University is ranked 801-1000 in the latest ranking.

“We are very pleased to have entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for meeting the eligibility criteria to receive a rank in the league table,” said the President of Sunway University, Professor Sibrandes Poppema.

The rankings are based on 13 performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance in four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. Governments and universities trust these rankings, vital for students deciding where to study.

Moreover, Sunway University has also secured the top position among private universities in Malaysia for THE Impact Rankings 2022, ranking Top 301+ out of 1,406 international institutions. Based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the rankings recognise universities worldwide for their social and economic impact.

Sunway University has ranked highly in the Top 200 in SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 17 – Partnership for the Goals. It has also ranked in the Top 300 in SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy and has received a high score in SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Sunway University’s focus on preparing students for future careers has also paid off. In the International Student Barometer 2021 survey, the university ranked number one in ‘Career Support,’ with a 92.3% satisfaction rate compared to the average of 77.6% globally.

The Sunway Career Services 2020/2021 report in Malaysia also revealed that Sunway graduates were highly sought after, with the Top 10 Companies hiring Sunway graduates including Accenture, AIA, Ernst & Young, Great Eastern Life Assurance, Maybank, Prudential Assurance, Public Bank, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Shopee and Sunway Group and subsidiaries.

Talentbank Group also recognised Sunway University as the number one university in Graduate Employability in Malaysia through the National Graduate Employability Index (GE Index). The survey gauges the employability rate of graduates from universities all across Malaysia, highlighting Malaysian universities that have produced the most highly sought-after graduates.

“From here on, Sunway University will continue to go upward as our articles and citations have rapidly increased in the past two years. Our education and research reputation is growing, especially because of the global number one position in the International Student Barometer for Career Support and the Malaysian number one position in Graduate Employability,” said Professor Poppema.
