Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and MRT Corporation Sdn. Bhd. have collaborated to empower the university’s visibility in line with the aspirations of the UTM enVision 2025 Strategic Plan. This collaboration is made possible through the naming of one of the stations on the Putrajaya Line, namely MRT Raja Uda-UTM, which is on the second line of the Klang Valley MRT network.

The selection of the Raja Uda-UTM MRT station is due to its location within the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur Central Business District, making it one of the most-patronage by the general public. This strategic partnership between UTM and MRT Corp. benefits both parties in job creation, labour supply, and R&D.

UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Ir Ts Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, said that the MRT Corp. branding partnership with UTM is a strategic combination supporting one of the university’s core values in the context of “sustainability” and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“Through this collaboration, UTM’s desire to promote a low-carbon lifestyle will be communicated to the public while encouraging public transport use, especially for urbanites,” he added.

The Raja Uda-UTM MRT station is a platform for organizing official UTM events and promoting various services and programs offered by UTM. At the same time, UTM is also planning to open a kiosk, “UTMART,” catered for selling UTM’s official merchandise to the public.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially launched the Putrajaya Line, opening the Raja Uda-UTM MRT station for public use.
UTM will also reap the benefit of brand empowerment through the “Raja Uda-UTM” station name announcement more than 700,000 times annually for each train and displays at 36 stations along the route.

This collaboration will benefit both parties regarding job creation, labour supply, and R&D. UTM intends to establish more collaborations with the industry to improve tertiary education towards producing future-oriented graduates.
