Tech Dome Penang, a science and technology discovery centre in Penang, has launched a digital literacy programme called ‘Digital Literacy Empowerment’ to enhance digital literacy among school students.
The programme, fully sponsored by Greatech Technology Berhad, will benefit eight schools in Penang, including those with less than 100 students. Tech Dome Penang CEO, Khoo Boo Wooi, said the partnership will provide laptops for the students and training for teachers on digital literacy.
Laptops are considered the most fundamental tool for students to become digitally literate.

The sponsorship from Greatech Technology Berhad, a Penang-based automation solutions provider, amounts to RM100,000. The contribution was to help needy Tamil school students to learn and pursue STEM-related programmes.
During the event, the company presented a mock cheque to Penang Education Council manager, Fatimah Hassan. Teoh Sok Ning, HR A section manager of Greatech Technology Berhad, represented the company during the ceremony.
Deputy Chief Minister II, Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who was the chief guest at the launching ceremony of the ‘Digital Literacy Empowerment’ at Tech Dome Penang, said that knowledge should be pursued, not waited upon. Dr Ramasamy highlighted the importance of digital literacy, which is considered the way forward.
120 Students Participate in the ‘Innovative Raya Torch Workshop’
Concurrently, 120 students from four schools participated in the ‘Innovative Raya Torch Workshop’ at Tech Dome Penang. The participating schools were SK Bakap Indah, SJKC Permatang Tinggi, SJKT Ladang Cangkat, and SJKT Ladang Sempah.
The workshop aimed to enhance the students’ creativity and innovation in building a Raya Torch using recycled materials.
The ‘Digital Literacy Empowerment’ programme by Tech Dome Penang is a laudable initiative that aims to enhance digital literacy among school students in Penang. The sponsorship from Greatech Technology Berhad will help provide laptops and training to teachers, which will be useful in improving the students’ digital literacy skills.
