Halal-certified FamilyMart expanding to East Coast

FamilyMart Malaysia: First halal-certified convenience store café. Explore their expansion and commitment to a halal-friendly experience.

FamilyMart Malaysia

FamilyMart Malaysia, the popular convenience store chain, has recently achieved a significant milestone by obtaining halal certification for its FamiCafé in Menara U, Shah Alam. This accreditation, granted by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM), makes it the first halal-certified convenience store café in the country. FamilyMart Malaysia aims to ensure that customers can shop and dine with complete peace of mind at their premises.

The halal certification process will extend to other FamilyMart Malaysia stores in stages, as guided by JAKIM. The company has already commenced the auditing process at two additional locations. As a result of this certification, new FamiCafés will adopt the JAKIM-prescribed layout, while existing cafés will undergo necessary changes to meet the required standards.

By 2025, FamilyMart Malaysia plans to have 300 halal-certified FamiCafés, serving café beverages and ready-to-eat food prepared in-store. Currently, there are 16 FamiCafés in operation, with a target of 50 cafés planned by the end of 2023. This ambitious initiative reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience and providing greater assurance and confidence to its patrons.

It is worth noting that FamilyMart Malaysia’s central kitchen, operated by QL Kitchen, has been halal-certified by JAKIM since 2019. Additionally, 172 FamilyMart branded food products have been registered as halal on JAKIM’s official portal, as of April 30, 2023. The company’s dedication to halal compliance extends beyond the cafés and encompasses its entire product range.

In line with its commitment to catering to the needs of its Muslim customers, FamilyMart Malaysia has also ceased the sale of alcohol across all its stores. This decision further solidifies the company’s dedication to providing an inclusive and halal-friendly environment for all.

In addition to the halal certification achievements, FamilyMart Malaysia has exciting expansion plans in store. The company is venturing into the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia to meet the demands of its fans in the region. With locations already being secured, FamilyMart Malaysia aims to open 20 new stores by the end of 2023. The expansion efforts are already underway in various parts of Kuantan, Pahang.
