Xiamen Airlines has officially launched its first-ever flight from Chongqing to Kuala Lumpur, which is set to increase tourism traffic between China and Malaysia. The direct flight will operate four times a week, offering convenience to both countries in economic and cultural exchanges.
The passengers were warmly welcomed by Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) at the airport.
Boosting tourism between China and Malaysia
The launch of the direct flight from Chongqing to Kuala Lumpur by Xiamen Airlines is a significant step towards boosting tourism between China and Malaysia. The increased travel demand is the driving force behind this new route, which offers more convenience and connectivity to Malaysia.
Malaysia currently has 175 weekly flights from China, and with the new route, the country aims to attract 3.5 million Chinese tourists this year. The non-stop flight to Chongqing is part of Xiamen Airlines’ plan to operate 25 flights to China every week, including Kuala Lumpur to Xiamen (two daily flights) and Kuala Lumpur to Fuzhou (one daily flight).
The visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to China last March deepened the Malaysia-China relationship, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
The partnership has fostered closer economic and cultural ties between the two countries, leading to the launch of the new direct flight. The increase in flights will help promote economic growth, cultural exchanges, and investment opportunities between the two countries.
