Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Mid Valley KL has announced the cancellation of all shows and temporary closure of the cinema following a fire incident at Mid Valley Megamall KL. While the cinema itself was not directly affected, GSC is prioritizing the safety of its patrons and working closely with local authorities and the mall’s management.
Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department are currently responding to a fire incident at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad electrical substation located in a mall, as reported by NST. The Kuala Lumpur Command & Control Centre’s Twitter page shared an image of the fire, informing the public that two roads have been closed.
Police officers are present at the scene to manage traffic flow. Videos capturing the incident are circulating on social media, revealing thick black smoke rising from the site.
Refunds for purchased tickets
In light of the temporary closure, GSC has taken immediate steps to address the inconvenience caused to customers. The cinema chain will issue refunds for all purchased tickets. For those who bought their tickets online, refunds will be processed automatically.
On the other hand, customers who purchased tickets at the cinema are requested to retain their tickets and return them for a refund within seven days once the cinema reopens. GSC is committed to facilitating the refund process efficiently and appreciates customers’ cooperation and patience in this matter.
GSC prioritizing safety
GSC acknowledges the understanding and cooperation of their valued customers during this challenging time. The safety of patrons and employees remains the top priority for the cinema chain.
As they work closely with local authorities and the management of Mid Valley Megamall KL, GSC aims to ensure that all necessary safety measures are in place before resuming operations. Customers are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates regarding the reopening of GSC Mid Valley KL and the resumption of regular movie screenings.
In 2011, GSC Mid Valley cancelled all shows as a result of a small fire which broke out in one of the cinema hall’s back corridors. Fortunately, all customers were safely evacuated and no one was reported hurt.
Mid Valley Megamall is back to business tomorrow [Updated]
The Mid Valley City management says offices, hotels and shops within its premises will resume operations tomorrow (May 18), after a fire at the TNB substation. It said it received clearance to reopen “following a thorough investigation by TNB and Fire and Rescue Department.”
Earlier today, the management reported on Facebook that a fire erupted at the external TNB substation in Mid Valley City, which has been contained by the Emergency Response Team. No injuries or casualties have been reported as of 11.38 am.
Kuala Lumpur JPBM Operations Unit assistant director M Fatta M Amin said the fire is believed to have been caused by overheated cooling oil. He also said there are 4 TNB substations in the building, but only 1 was on fire and the other 3 were not affected.
