Mitra, the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit, is set to launch a focused socioeconomic development program in 72 parliamentary constituencies with a significant concentration of Indian communities.

With an allocation of RM7.2 million, each Member of Parliament (MP) representing these areas will receive RM100,000 to implement various programs that cater to human capital development, entrepreneurship, and social welfare initiatives.

Mitra’s special task force committee chairman, R Ramanan, reveals that the program is aimed at uplifting the socioeconomic conditions of Indian communities.

The selected constituencies include Petaling in Selangor, Johor Bahru in Johor, and Kinta district in Perak, which have substantial Indian populations.

By providing financial support to MPs, Mitra intends to drive positive change through programs focused on education, skills development, entrepreneurship, and social welfare.

Mitra empowers Indian youths through strategic collaborations

Mitra is partnering with Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd to offer technician training to 100 Indian B40 (bottom 40% income group) youths over 21 months, with a budget of RM5.5 million.

Additionally, two programs, namely the Drone Operation and Data Service (DODS) and the Electrified Automation Advancement Programme (EAAP), in collaboration with SG Education Group, will involve 150 and 250 Indian B40 youths, respectively.

These initiatives aim to equip participants with the necessary skills for emerging industries

Partnerships for education and subsidy programs

In collaboration with Google, Mitra plans to supply 6,000 refurbished laptops equipped with Google ChromeOS Flex to 527 Tamil national-type schools or SJKT.

The allocation of RM3 million will enable students to access technology that supports learning for up to 10 years.

Additionally, Mitra highlights the success of the Private Kindergarten Early Education Subsidy Programme (Tamil), benefiting 4,973 children.

Furthermore, applications for the Undergraduate Study Assistance Subsidy Programme for B40 Indian students at public universities remain open until September 15, 2023.
