MPSJ to chase rental arrears of council flats

MPSJ tabled motion to impose action against the council flat tenants who have not been paying rental since 2006.

MPSJ will move against the council flat tenants who have not paid the minimal rental of RM124 for more than five years.

The arrears accumulated by over some 210 units at Pangsapuri Enggang is now reaching RM400,000, prompting an enforcement action to be tabled at the MPSJ full board meeting today.

“The arrears range from RM500 to RM8000. There are two units that owe RM8000 and 50 units that owe more than RM5000,” MPSJ president Adnan Md Ikhsan said at a press conference.

The apartment located at Bandar Kinrara 6 is a MPSJ project under the BN-introduced Zero Squatter Policy. It has three blocks and 230 units.

Adnan said although the rental is not costly, many able tenants are still avoiding the bill.

“We issue notices to them every month, but I think they are just taking it for granted.”

The official said they will identify the status of the unit and the tenant’s background before taking action.

“Some units are abandoned and some families are earning less than RM1000 a month, (and) they find it hard to make the ends meet.

“For the latter, we will try to get the Selangor Zakat Board to help them to pay.”

Meanwhile Adnan also revealed there are 99 illegal gated and guarded schemes around Subang Jaya.

He said while the council understands residents’ security concerns, every resident association (RA) should submit plans for approval before erecting security structures.

“Placing drums to close a road for 24/7 is definitely not allowed, and neither should they erect barricades at an area near to the schools and traffic.

“But so far we have yet to receive any guidelines from the state or federal government regarding this.”

The monthly meeting also marked the final appearance for three councillors: Chang Kim Loong of JKP Zone 9, Hamdan Ismail of JKP Zone 19 and Chia Yew Ken of JKP Zone 2.

The three thanked the house and reminded their colleagues to continue serving their best for Subang Jaya residents.

The new line up of councillors of 2010/2011 term is expected to be announced soon.
