SIR 2023 to promote sports tourism

The upcoming Selangor International Race (SIR) 2023 is a major cycling event that will showcase the beauty of Selangor and promote sports tourism in the state

Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) is pleased to announce the upcoming Selangor International Race 2023 (SIR 2023), an international road cycling event that will take place on June 25th. The race marks a significant milestone for PKNS and the cycling community as it brings together athletes from around the world to experience the breath-taking landscapes and cultural heritage of Selangor. The event aims to promote sports tourism and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle, aligning with PKNS’ vision of creating a better life.

The race will take participants through a 145km journey consisting of roads passing towns within Selangor. The route which begins at the PKNS Headquarters in Shah Alam includes an undulating terrain with a 30km section of flat open terrain exposed to windy conditions. Along the way, participants will pass through some of Selangor’s notable landmarks such as Kota Puteri Township, the historic coal mining town of Batu Arang, the bountiful Selangor Fruit Valley and Kampung Kuantan which is known for their fireflies.

Speaking at the media conference, PKNS CEO, Dato’ Mahmud Abbas, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the upcoming event, stating, “As a passionate cycling enthusiast myself, I am absolutely thrilled to announce that in just a few short weeks, PKNS will host its very first international road cycling race, the Selangor International Race 2023, on June 25th. This is a momentous occasion for all of us who share a love for cycling and the beauty of Selangor.”

1000 cyclist registered for inaugural Selangor International Race

Registrations for the Selangor International Race 2023 have been closed after reaching the target of 1,000 contestants, demonstrating the overwhelming enthusiasm and support for the event. PKNS expressed deep gratitude to all the participants and extends a warm welcome to the international cycling community converging on Selangor for this historic race.

In the lead up to race day, cycling enthusiasts and the general public are invited to experience the excitement, including cycling clinics, workshops, and retail booths, on 24 June 2023 from 10am to 6pm at the PKNS Headquarters in Shah Alam. Meanwhile, participants can collect their race kits on the same day from 10am to 6pm at Block B, PKNS Headquarters.
