Petaling Jaya gets RM 30 million public infrastructure

Sunway Property completes RM 30M public upgrading works in Petaling Jaya, including road upgrades and lake rehabilitation, promoting sustainability.

In a significant development for the city of Petaling Jaya, Sunway Property has officially opened the 250-meter-long Sunway Serene bridge, marking the completion of the RM 30 million public upgrading works. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Petaling Jaya Mayor Tuan Mohamad Azhan bin Md Amir and Sunway Group Founder and Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah.

The event was attended by several key figures, including Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya Chief Engineer Tuan Ir. Ismail Shafie, Sunway Group Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman Hashim, and Sunway Property Managing Director Sarena Cheah.

Sunway Property’s extensive upgrades focused on the enhancement of existing road networks and the rehabilitation of the 15-acre Sunway Serene Lake, aligning with the development plans for the 17-acre Sunway Serene development. These initiatives demonstrate Sunway Property’s commitment to sustainable development and its dedication to creating smart and resilient cities.

Speaking at the launch, Petaling Jaya Mayor Tuan Mohamad Azhan bin Md Amir praised Sunway Group’s tireless efforts in promoting sustainable development.

“Sunway Group’s bold commitment to developing smart sustainable cities is aligned with
MBPJ’s goal of becoming a low-carbon city, based on the 17 United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (UN-SDGs) and the 10 themes under the Petaling Jaya Smart,
Sustainable and Resilient 2030 Plan (PJSSR 2030),” he said.

Mayor Tuan Mohamad Azhan bin Md Amir emphasized the importance of collaboration between corporate citizens and local councils to foster community resilience and effectively manage the challenges brought about by rapid urbanization and climate change.

He stated that the community initiative showcased Sunway’s commitment to placing the interests of the community at the forefront of their business operations.

“At Sunway, we believe that no corporation can stand apart from the community it serves. You have my word that Sunway will continue to walk the talk in serving the community here.” Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey added.

Sunway Group’s Green Township Policy and Green Building Policy demonstrate their commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Additionally, their Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) arm has implemented a Green Lease Partnership Programme to drive sustainable solutions and encourage best international practices in sustainability.

Sunway Property has partnered with Alliance Bank, Standard Chartered, and Public Bank to offer lower interest rates and faster turnaround times for purchasers, promoting the adoption of green communities.

Extensive road upgrades alleviate traffic congestion

The road upgrades undertaken by Sunway Property involved transforming the 500-meter open v-shape drain along Jalan SS7/1 & SS7/3 into a 600 mm x 600 mm box culvert, constructing a new 1,800 mm width walkway with concrete imprint finishes, and upgrading Jalan SS8/2 from two lanes to three lanes. The enhancements also included the lengthening of the weaving section between the Federal Highway Ramp and Jalan SS7/2 from 20 meters to 100 meters, and the construction of a 250-meter-long approach bridge to the development.

These road improvements will alleviate traffic congestion, enhance connectivity to the public transport network system, including the Glenmarie LRT, Setia Jaya KTM, Kelana Jaya LRT, and BRT Sunway Line.

Sunway Property rehabilitates Sunway Serene Lake

Moreover, Sunway Property took the initiative to adopt and rehabilitate the 15-acre Sunway Serene Lake. Prior to the rehabilitation works, the lake’s water quality was classified as unsuitable for recreational purposes (Class IV and V), and the poorly-lit lakeside had become a hotspot for crime. To improve the lake’s condition, Sunway Property installed floating traps, removed litter, and planted aquatic plants to enhance water quality. The efforts resulted in the removal of a substantial amount of trash and the reintroduction of various forms of wildlife, including fish, birds, frogs, and squirrels.

Sunway Serene, with a gross development value of RM 1 billion, was completed in January 2023 and is currently being handed over to purchasers. The development incorporates Sunway Design and Development Architecture (SDDA), integrating sustainability, innovation, health and wellness, and lifestyle elements into its design. Sunway Serene boasts innovative features such as a mini water tipping bucket and a 210-meter lazy river inspired by Sunway Lagoon.

In conjunction with the community-centric built environment, Sunway Property has launched the Sunway Property Community Programme, which aims to provide lifestyle support to owners, sub-sale owners, and tenants within their developments.

Sunway Property’s commitment to sustainable development and community enhancement has brought significant benefits to the residents of Petaling Jaya, contributing to a greener, more livable cityscape.
