AirAsia has commemorated the revival of its flight route from Hong Kong to Penang with a warm reception, signifying a significant achievement for the airline. This route, operated three times a week, establishes AirAsia as the sole low-cost carrier offering a direct air link between these bustling cities.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, Yeoh Soon Hin, the Caretaker Penang State EXCO for Tourism & Creative Economy, Ooi Chok Yan, CEO of Penang Global Tourism, and Dato’ Abdul Aziz Bakar, Non-Executive Director of Capital A. This celebration underscores the strategic value of the new route in fostering both leisure and business prospects.

A grand welcome for AirAsia’s Hong Kong-Penang flight

AirAsia’s reestablished flight connection between Hong Kong and Penang was met with a festive welcome, epitomizing a milestone for the airline. The newly introduced thrice-weekly service, the only of its kind, bridges the gap between the two vibrant metropolises, promising enhanced accessibility and convenience for travellers.

In an elaborate ceremony, Flight AK2280 took off from Hong Kong International Airport and landed at Penang International Airport with an impressive 96 percent capacity. Guests onboard the inaugural flight were greeted with enthusiasm, marking the significance of this renewed route. The reception featured a water cannon salute, followed by the presentation of exclusive AirAsia merchandise.

The revival of this route is particularly significant considering Penang’s status as the renowned “Pearl of the Orient.” With its rich historical heritage, diverse cultural tapestry, and tantalising cuisine, Penang has long been a cherished destination for leisure and business visitors alike. Yeoh lauded AirAsia’s ongoing dedication in expanding its network to and from Penang. Until 13 August 2023, travellers can secure all-in one-way fares from Penang to Hong Kong starting at just RM279. This exceptional offer is valid for travel from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2024. Additionally, a flash deal promo provides an all-in-one-way fare from HKD538 for those flying between 21 August 2023 and 31 March 2024.
