Saree Walkathon promotes unity ahead of Merdeka Day

Over 800 participants weave a colourful tapestry of unity at Klang’s Saree Walkathon, celebrating diverse heritage and cultures in vibrant harmony.

In a vibrant and culturally rich event, Dataran Klang @ Padang Chetty, Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang, came alive with the spirit of unity as women donned traditional Indian attire for the Saree Walkaton event held on August 20th.

Organized by The Bell Club Tamil Malaysia in collaboration with the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), this event marked a unique celebration leading up to the country’s upcoming Independence Day on August 31.

Preserving heritage through saree

With the aim of fostering an appreciation for the saree as a cherished cultural heritage of the Indian community, participants of all ages, including Indian women and individuals from various nationalities, converged to take part in the Saree Walkathon. More than 800 enthusiastic participants from Selangor and beyond gathered to celebrate diversity and unity through this traditional attire.

Dr. R Kokila Yanee, Secretary of The Bell Club Tamil Malaysia, shared her joy in a Facebook post, “More than 861 ladies participated in this event. Everyone seems happy to be there in Saree. Participants expressed their happiness joining this event.”
