The Johor Zoo is set to undergo significant enhancements as the state government secures an additional RM2 million allocation from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC).
The allocation underscores the collaborative efforts between MOTAC and the state government to invigorate Johor’s tourism sector.
Johor Zoo boosting tourism prospects
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi acknowledged the strategic initiatives driven by both MOTAC and the state government, aimed at ensuring the vibrant growth of Johor’s tourism industry.
Expressing gratitude to Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing for the RM2 million allocation, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi reiterated the commitment to evolving Johor into a globally preferred tourism destination.
The Johor Zoo’s transformational journey has already commenced, with the upgrade efforts projected to conclude by the first quarter of the upcoming year. This infusion of funds signifies a notable step towards revitalizing the zoo’s facilities and visitor experience.
Revitalizing the Zoo
The comprehensive upgrade for Johor Zoo encompasses multiple aspects of its infrastructure. The project entails enhancing the visitor walkways, reimagining the entrance arch, incorporating an outdoor parking area, and transitioning the ticketing system to an online platform. Furthermore, improvements to the zoo’s pond, gates, piping, and electrical systems are part of this holistic initiative.
Importantly, the enhancements are strategically designed to enhance the visitor experience while keeping the animals’ well-being at the forefront. The facelift won’t involve the relocation of the animals, ensuring a seamless transition for both the inhabitants and visitors.
Additionally, the state’s plans include developing an app that will integrate the zoo with other attractions across Johor, providing a cohesive and convenient experience for tourists exploring the region.
The commitment to revitalizing the Johor Zoo, the country’s oldest zoo, is testament to the dedication of the state government, MOTAC, and various stakeholders to nurture Johor’s tourism potential. The rejuvenated zoo, expected to reopen by the year’s end, holds promise not only for local communities but also for visitors seeking leisure and educational experiences.
