The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Penang Chapter has once again demonstrated the power of community support by raising an impressive RM489,000 during its Annual Fundraising Dinner 2023.

This remarkable achievement not only highlights the generosity of Penang’s residents but also reaffirms the chapter’s commitment to its vital humanitarian activities within the state.

A record-breaking evening for Malaysian Red Crescent

Organising chairman Alan Lau proudly announced that this year’s fundraising event shattered previous records, with a remarkable 78 tables gracing the Annual Fundraising Dinner.

Lau expressed deep gratitude to the attendees, emphasizing that their presence, generous donations, and unwavering support are the cornerstones of MRC Penang Chapter’s ability to serve the community effectively.

For 75 years, the MRC Penang Chapter has been dedicated to providing humanitarian aid, relief, and support to those in need. Their responders, officers, and members have consistently stepped forward to serve the community in times of crisis, working tirelessly around the clock and volunteering for initiatives that alleviate suffering, promote health, and empower individuals and communities.

Recognitions and milestones

The evening also marked a significant milestone – the 75th Anniversary of the MRC. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow lauded the chapter’s exceptional humanitarian work, especially during times of disasters and road accidents.

Chow highlighted the chapter’s commitment to community welfare, including training members in first aid, pre-hospital care, disaster relief, and various humanitarian projects benefiting the less fortunate. One notable initiative, the Community Based Ambulance Service (ComBase), initiated in 2008, has played a pivotal role in ensuring timely medical assistance.

The incorporation of the Taman Iping station into the Health Ministry’s Hotspot Programme in April 2022 further enhances the chapter’s emergency response capabilities. Ambulances operated by MRC Penang Chapter now operate 24/7, responding to calls from the 999-emergency call centre, ensuring patients receive the care they need, from hospital transfers to home care.

The Malaysian Red Crescent Penang Chapter’s Annual Fundraising Dinner 2023 not only celebrates the chapter’s 75th Anniversary but also showcases the unwavering support of the community.
