Penang Ferry: Affordable fares, enhancing passenger experience

Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) has announced a new fare structure for the Penang ferry service, offering passengers remarkably affordable rates for their journeys. Commencing tomorrow, this initiative reflects PPSB’s commitment to enhancing passenger experiences and improving ferry service facilities.

Part of the fare restructuring includes fares as low as RM1 to RM2.50 for one-way trips. Passengers aged 12 and below will enjoy a minimal fare of RM1, while adult passengers (those above 12) will be charged RM2.

Cyclists and motorcycle riders will have fares of RM2 and RM2.50, respectively. These fares will apply to travel to or from both terminals, namely the Raja Tun Uda Jetty on the island side and the Sultan Abdul Halim Jetty on the mainland side.

Affordable travel for all

PPSB’s decision to introduce such competitive fares aims to make ferry travel accessible and affordable to a broad spectrum of passengers.

By offering fares as low as RM1, the ferry service ensures that individuals and families can choose this mode of transportation without the burden of high costs.

This move is especially significant for pedestrians aged 12 and below, who can now enjoy a budget-friendly fare of RM1. It encourages more people to explore the convenience of ferry travel, which is not only a practical mode of transport but also a scenic and enjoyable experience.

Monthly passes and added value

To further enhance passenger convenience and value, PPSB will introduce monthly passes starting from tomorrow. These passes will offer discounts to regular ferry users, making it an attractive option for daily commuters.

PPSB’s commitment to delivering enhanced value and convenience is evident in these adjustments. By introducing lower fares and monthly passes, the ferry service aims to create a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for its passengers. This initiative is a significant step towards achieving this objective.

The Penang ferry service has undergone significant improvements, including the introduction of four new ferries, namely Teluk Bahang, Teluk Kampi, Teluk Duyung, and Teluk Kumbar. These ferries operate 68 two-way trips daily between Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (PRTU) on the island and Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH) in Butterworth

With a passenger capacity of 150 and the capability to accommodate 50 motorcycles per trip, the new ferries offer more efficient and comfortable transportation options for passengers. The increased frequency during peak hours ensures that commuters can rely on the ferry service as a dependable means of transit.
