IKEA Tebrau and Toppen Shopping Centre have unveiled an exciting collaboration with Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT), known as the Southern Tigers. This partnership is designed to ignite a passion for football and strengthen community bonds within Johor’s lively football scene.
One of the primary components of this collaboration involves Toppen, which will soon host a dedicated fan clubhouse called The Topp on its rooftop. Set to open in early 2024, this clubhouse will house a merchandise store and provide a curated space for JDT fans to gather outside the stadium.
Moreover, Toppen is working towards securing live screenings of all JDT matches, making it the go-to destination in Johor, beyond the JDT stadium, for fans to enjoy live games alongside fellow enthusiasts.
Details of this exciting partnership were announced at a press conference held at the JDT Headquarters on October 5, 2023.
IKEA crafting unique concept with JDT
Simultaneously, IKEA Tebrau is in the final stages of crafting a unique concept within the JDT stadium. This concept will allow fans to relish their favorite IKEA cuisine while immersing themselves in home furnishing inspiration. The collaboration also includes IKEA for Business design solutions for key areas at the JDT stadium and special promotions for JDT fans at IKEA Tebrau.
At the heart of this partnership lies a shared commitment to encourage communities to lead active lifestyles. Toppen exemplifies this commitment through its rooftop facilities at The Topp, featuring a multipurpose court, skate park, free climbing wall, and various activities, including Zumba classes and community runs. The mall’s tenant mix further enhances accessibility to sports and wellness offerings.
Arnoud Bakker, Commercial Director at Ikano Centres, expressed, “We are excited to partner with JDT in strengthening our ties with football fans in South Malaysia and creating a second home for JDT supporters in Johor Bahru. Sports have a unique power to unite people and foster connections, aligning with our mission to build communities.”
Tony Vatuiu, Store Manager of IKEA Tebrau, added, “The partnership between IKEA Tebrau, Toppen, and JDT is a ‘dream team’ of well-loved brands coming together to create a better everyday life for Johoreans.”

This collaboration signifies more than just a shared enthusiasm for football; it embodies the spirit of teamwork and togetherness, mirroring the essence of the sport itself.
Alistair Edwards, JDT Chief Executive Officer, expressed the club’s excitement, stating, “This partnership isn’t just about the matches. It’s about creating a sense of belonging and excitement for our fans.”
Previously this year, IKEA Tebrau and JDT partnered exclusively with Toppen for the Fan Token Launch, which featured meet and greet sessions, exclusive JDT merchandise, live match screenings, and engaging football-themed activities for shoppers.
While additional details of this partnership are being finalized, other elements of the collaboration include key events featuring the JDT brand and players at both IKEA Tebrau and Toppen, regular fan rewards, brand presence at the JDT stadium, ongoing corporate social responsibility commitments involving all three brands, and a continuous platform for knowledge exchange on topics such as facility and operational management, safety and security, and project management.
This alliance underscores the commitment of these well-loved brands to unite communities through the power of sports and shared experiences.
As the partnership progresses, it promises to bring fans closer to the action, offering a unique blend of football excitement and lifestyle experiences. With a dedicated fan clubhouse and live match screenings, Toppen aims to become the ultimate destination for JDT enthusiasts, amplifying their connection with the team.
