The government is preparing to introduce tidal flow lanes on the Sungai Besi-Seremban Expressway, spanning from the Astro Junction up to a point located 200 metres before the Smart Tunnel, with the implementation expected to commence in November this year.
However, prior to this, a comprehensive study involving the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Royal Malaysian Police, and the Ministry of Works through the Malaysian Highway Authority will be conducted to evaluate the feasibility of this implementation.
The tidal flow system’s implementation
Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed these plans, emphasizing the government’s commitment to combat traffic congestion.
An online user satisfaction survey will also be initiated to assess the level of satisfaction with the tidal flow system’s implementation in the Klang Valley. The findings from this study will be presented to the Cabinet Committee on Traffic Congestion.
These decisions emerged from discussions at the Cabinet Committee on Traffic Congestion meeting, led by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The move to introduce tidal flow lanes aims to enhance traffic flow and alleviate congestion on the Sungai Besi-Seremban Expressway.
Enhancing public transportation and accessibility
In addition to this development, three new bus lanes are set to be established in Kuala Lumpur, anticipated to become operational in November this year. These lanes will be located along Jalan Cheras-Loke Yew (11.5 km), Jalan Kuching (5.7 km), and Jalan Genting Klang (8.7 km).
Furthermore, the existing special bus lane along Jalan Ampang will be extended and improved from October 16, enhancing public transportation and accessibility in the city.
These measures represent a concerted effort by the government to address traffic issues and enhance public transportation, with the introduction of tidal flow lanes and the expansion of bus lanes.
The comprehensive study and user satisfaction survey underscore the government’s commitment to making data-driven decisions in improving traffic management.
The government is committed to data-driven decision-making and ongoing improvements in managing traffic in the region, as evidenced by these upcoming initiatives.
